I am trying to locate some used shoe recycling centers in new york city.

I think it is disgusting to think about wearing someone elses sweaty old shoes. Maybe some special fungus in there too.

However, from an environmental prespective... what a pile of waste old shoes made from all sorts of plastics and other chemical substances it is. We need to look into history and maybe move forward with wooden dutch shoes so we have an environment to look forward to!

I would never purchase anyone else's shoes. However I am sure there are some creative ways to recycle them and find a different use for the materials in them.

Comment #3 lsflllx from New York (Contact Member) -

i had worn others's clothes , i felt uncomfortable in the next day, so now i would not used others'things(clothes, shoses so on)been used, i think you had better not use.

This viewpoint for resources, the environment aspect to say beneficial, but wear the shoe that the other people cut through to really have a little to make person hard accept

Comment #5 MrD from Murdaland (Contact Member) -

Its a very disghusting idea.

you can recycle the shoe's material but not the shoe itself

Comment #6 Brad from San Francisco (Contact Member) -

I bet there are lots of poor people that would be delighted to have someone's used shoes.

I hope Nancy finds that place that "recycles" I would take that to mean cleans and disinfects shoes.

Comment #7 imaginarydivabc from vancouver, bc (Contact Member) -

I think that Nancy is looking for a place to donate instead of buy old shoes. Buy the way, if you are into that "used" shoe thing, there's tons to buy from the internet.

Hi Nancy

I agree to what most people have said about using used shoes, but still I think you should go ahead if you are not having any reservations about it. But as imaginarydivabc points out, if you are looking to donate or sell used shoes then its fine. The main thing is we are all trying to give advice to Nancy but not giving address of any such place. Just try asking some local store. Good Luck!

I wouldn't buy any used shoes either but I'm sure people can't afford shoes for their kids and themselves don't mind.

i myself would never wear someone else's old shoes. Iam sure though that there are people who would and do. I think it would be ok for maybe to get a pair of used shows for a costume or something but not for everyday wear.

I am pretty sure that buying used shoes would cause you to get some kind of fungus. Especially some kind of running shoes or dancing shoes. Whos to say how long the person before you had them, and how long they sat before you wore them, which gave the shoes plenty of time to grow fungus!

i agree with you completely, and especially when it comes to buying used running or dancing shoes. you do not know who had them before you, and what kind of person they were. I would just stick to spending a little more money on yourself and buy a new pair of shoes, and in the long run are going to last you longer as well.

Nancy, The local GOODWILL stores or thrift shops are listed in the Yellow Pages. My family was very porr when I was growing up and sometimes thats all we had to wear was used clothes and shoes and I was happy with what I had , it was better then having nothing to wear on ur feet , .there are ways to clean up just about anything to make it safe to use or wear. Some people must be soooooo rich and have tons of money to buy new but for some people USED is the next best thing.Buying or SELLING used is GOOD. LOL, Cynthia

Comment #14 Vanessa Carter (76.125.238.55) -

If you are trying to locate shoes in New York City, I am sure the goodwill or salvation army would have PLENTY of shoes to offer you, so maybe try those places first.

I am sure there are plenty of views on buying or wearing used shoes. Everyone has their own opinion.

The real truth is, everyone is right. It is just your own personal choice. Nobody can tell me that just because a shoe is used, it carries diseases inside of it forever.

Hasn't anyone ever heard of Dr. Scholl's Foot Powder?

I am in & out of customers houses everyday. There are times I have to get to a breaker box to put me in the safety zone. I cant help but notice the beautiful high heel shoes & boots that have a layer of dust on them. these would be the ideal shoes to be on a used sale shelf. however with any shoes that are worn often, I agree with others in that it could be an unsanitary venture.

I think it depend on the condition of the shoe if its still wearable or all worn out. There are lot of ways to sanitize and rebuff as shoe so that it could be in good shape. I haven't tried buying old shoe on thrift shop but I'm not against it. For me it ok to wear the shoe as long as the fungus that one thrived there is dead.

i think it would be okay to buy used shoes depending on the condition.

Nancy. Where would you use these used shoes for? Isn't that kind of odd. Are you planning to create a junk art out of these shoes?

Wearing used shoes of other might not be a good idea and it might not be safe from nasty stuffs

I would not recommended buying used shoes, if anything ask some of your friends or family members if they have any used shoes. Getting shoes from people you know, and know how their personal hygeniene is, is better than getting shoes from a complete stranger, just my advice, but its really up to you to do as you want.

I don't think using old shoes is gross when you think about all of the little kids without a descent pair of shoes for the wintertime.

My friend plans to open a new foundation that will give the shoesless kids a new pair of good shoes. He will call it "The Sole Foundation". Hey are you interested on joining my friend? I would introduce you to him if you are, just let me know

Dan, I am very interested in sending my old shoes to your friend. I, and my family have tons of old shoes that just sit around and that we do not wear. We will definitely be willing to donate them to kids/families who do not have shoes. Please let me know where to send these shoes at. Thank you.

Dan's friend's plan is not a bad idea but it would be better if he would just build a cooperative of shoe making. Then they will make shoes all manually by hand and sell them on the well of society at slightly higher price so it could sustain their production line and their advocacy to give the shoeless a good pair of soles. Giving a new pair of shoes is better that giving older and discarded ones.
